It was installed by default because of a dependency in kdenetwork4, which was luckily lost (it depended on tons of GStreamer plugins). Of course, a more useful message would be cool. Maybe in the future, when pkgng hits the tree, we’ll enable the integration between Phonon-GStreamer and PackageKit to install plugins on demand…

Hi,

The JuK problem was indeed due to missing auido/gstreamer-plugins-mp3 (which is odd, as it was installed by default previously). Also, some sort of error message from JuK hinting at the problem wouldn’t be too bad :)

I tried kmail both with migration and with a clean .kde4 directory, neither worked (as in, I couldn’t create a working IMAP connection towards davmail).

1. Interesting, I’ll fix it.

2. Yes, that’s how it’s supposed to work.

3. Yes, we randomly hit this problem… We have a couple of solutions planned, I’ll see if I can push work on them.

JuK: it’s probably due to missing GStreamer codecs. I’m about to commit a set of fixes to KDE ports, and one will address this problem.

KMail: eh, it’s still unstable, I know. I’ve not been able to use it in real production so far, only for testing. Will see if 4.7.3 brings any improvement. By the way, did you migrate your mail from KMail 1 or did you start from scratch? Starting from scratch “works” for me.

Thanks for the nice work on bringing kde-4.7.2 to freebsd! Do you have any time estimate for kdepim-4.7.x? I’d like to try kontact/korganizer/kaddressbook integration with our exchange server (via davmail).
