I’m busy with non-FreeBSD related stuff since a while, so there’s not much to say.

RealPlayer: Shaun, the FreeBSD maintainer of the helixplayer port, promised to polish up a patchset when he gets time to port helixplayer to a more recent version and send it to the corresponding helix community (requested by some people at Real [...]

A weekend with linux tests

I did spend the weekend with various test of the linuxolator.

First testing the remaining patches from the SoC from Roman with realplayer and acroread. The patches changed nothing in the tests, but they fixed some bugs nevertless.

After that I committed some stuff from submissions (aio from Intron and SO_PEERCRED from Marcin Cieslak) to p4 (available [...]

Linuxolator bug hunting

Several people help debugging/testing the new linuxolator. We already got patches from kib@ and from the contributor which uses “Intron” as his alias in communication. On the amd64 testing side bsam@ helps a lot. So far we fixed a panic with linux_vfork (I got hit by it while running the glibc regression tests) and synced [...]

I committed most of Romans work in the linuxolator to current. The new syscalls aren’t used until you run
sysctl compat.linux.osrelease=2.6.16
to switch back (after exiting all linux programs) you just have to run
sysctl compat.linux.osrelease=2.4.2
But you have to do this on i386. Amd64 support is not complete (and besides this, amd64 is still broken and nobody provided [...]

Wow, some of the TODO items in the last post are done:

emu10k1 lower priority on attach (allows emu10kx to attach when loaded too)
sade committed (and code improved)

And I did some more things:

emu10kx fixes (submitted by Yuriy)
enhancement of the bsd to linux errno mapping (submitted by “Intron”)
added some more files to ObsoleteFiles.inc (submitted by kris@)
had a [...]

Not much happened in the last days. I talked with my SoC 2006 students and helped them a little bit with knowledge and testing. I also did commit some fixes for the envy24 driver to current.

ATM I have some holidays. So I think I should get some more time do to some stuff in FreeBSD… [...]

In the last days I spend my free time with mentoring Boris and the SoC students. Boris is maybe ready to fly solo now (and he already got implicit aproval for several things from me), but I will keep an eye on him from time to time for some more weeks.

The linuxolator SoC project progresses [...]

In the last days I did not only spend my time approving stuff of my mentee Boris, I also worked a little bit on the linuxolator myself. Thanks to Dmitry Ganenko and a mail of him to emulators@ I was able to fix some bugs which prevented Oracle 10g Express Edition from running. While the [...]

A happy welcome to Boris Samorodov to the ports committers team (I’m his mentor). This means I don’t have the burden to take care of the linuxolator infrastructure in the Ports Collection alone anymore. Yeah!

Today I committed another part of Roman’s work in the linuxolator SoC. Now we should get log messages for the new [...]

I committed a little bit of cleanup / some XXX comments to the soundsystem, extended the linux(4) man page a little bit and removed some alpha specific section 4 man pages which where overlooked at the time alpha was removed from current.

I think I will enjoy the sun in the backyard a little bit now… [...]
