nanobsd(8) is in the tree!

So long, so good. The nanobsd(8) manual page that I have written is in the tree for around a week now and a few minutes ago I managed to MFC it to RELENG_6 so that means that it will be available in the FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE. This was also my first commit to RELENG_6, it was a bit tricky to get it wokring for me, but I think it was successful. Let’s take a look at other things that need to be MFC’ed before we will hit the freeze, which is right around the corner.

new query-pr.cgi

As I have mentioned my work on query-pr.cgi and query-pr-summary.cgi merge in my first blog entry, I have to notice you guys, that there’s a little progress in this area. The required security review is now completed (no bugs found, Yay!) and the working script is available for public review at http://people.freebsd.org/~danger/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi. I have also convinced it to properly handle URLs like http://people.freebsd.org/~danger/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?ports/23991 or http://people.freebsd.org/~danger/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?23991 which was not originally possible. Also the updated diff is available at http://people.freebsd.org/~danger/query-pr.diff

nanobsd(8) - revised

I received some comments for the new man page from ru@ (as I have sent it for review to my mentors and him) and I have modified it according to those. So long, I think it’s really close to the final version that will be available in our tree. At this moment, I’m waiting for my mentors for the final comments and possibly for the approval to commit.

Remko Lodder asked me if I could make it publicly available. He told me that some people might be interested; and that, actually, is not a bad idea – maybe it will receive a wider review before it will get committed.

The most recent (well, as of this day) nanobsd.8 man page is available here.

nanobsd(8)

I was badly bored today, so I decided that I have to find something to do. Since I have written a NanoBSD article and there is still missing a manual page for this utility, I realized that it would be pretty nice to write one. Finally, it’s done and I’ve sent it to my mentors and Ruslan for review. Let’s hope it’s good enough and will be available in our tree soon!

First commits

After I got my new shiny commit bit, I made my first FreeBSD commits. It’s pretty exciting this all for me, because I have never before used CVS or any other Version Control System. After all, the basic things are not that hard, I expected it to be far more complicated then it really is, although I haven’t made any complex actions yet :) After my first FreeBSD committer days I have closed some of our PRs in our GNATS, one of which was my long-standing PR with patch for ipfw Handbook chapter. Also I have commited my first typo, which was cought by Tom (ah well, I should wait for his approval too :-)) and I have immediately commited a fix for it. After all, my mentors are really neat and it’s great opportunity to work with them together.

Now, I’m waiting for Simon to review my cgi patch, and I’m looking forward to merge query-pr.cgi and query-pr-summary into one cgi script. If there’s anybody interested in this work,  the patch is currently available at http://people.freebsd.org/~danger/query-pr.diff, although the working cgi is not at the moment. We will have to wait for Simon’s security review.
